Following the shuffle and the cut, the cards are dealt in a clockwise direction beginning with the player to the dealer's left and continuing around the table, in order, until all players have received two closed cards and one open card. The two face down cards are called hole cards, as is the seventh card, also closed, that the player receives last.
All antes, if required, should be placed into the pot before the cards are dealt. Once an ante reaches the pot, it is like any other bet. It is the property of the pot and will belong to the eventual winner of the hand.
